Here is the advantage you have by becoming a member:

Members are entitled to attend annual general body meeting of the NGO, while volunteers do not have such right.
Members are eligible for the offices of the NGO, like Members of the Board or Managing Committee, Chairman, Secretary, etc, while volunteers can never become officers of the NGO.
As esteemed members, you have voting powers and your votes carry the power to initiate impactful initiatives and elect officials who will lead our NGO. Volunteers don’t have any voting power.
