The day 6th May 2023 was a memorable day for the newly founded non-profit organization “Hope for Humanity and Nature.” A blood donation drive was successfully organized at the Red Cross Blood donation center at Woodlands Civic Center. A dozens of people showed up to donate their blood for a worthy cause.
The atmosphere was one of warmth and camaraderie, with everyone united in the common goal of giving back to their community. Volunteers from the Red Cross greeted us with smiles and gratitude.
The blood donation process was executed smoothly and efficiently, with trained medical professionals overseeing the collection process. First-time donors underwent a “vein test” to determine whether their veins were suitable for donation. Prior to donating, each donor was required to complete a self-declaration form consisting of approximately four pages, mostly consisting of yes/no questionnaires. After submitting the form, donors were called for a quick blood test and a medical consultation before proceeding to the actual blood donation process.
Contrary to common misconceptions, the process of blood collection was relatively painless, and the entire process was completed in less than 15 minutes.
There were a variety of people who came to donate blood. Some had personal reasons for giving blood, while others simply wanted to contribute to a good cause. Some of us were even repeat donors. Many of us took pictures with their friends and family to commemorate the event.
While the blood donation drive was largely successful, there were a few disappointments as three potential donors were unable to donate blood. The reasons for their inability to donate varied, including recent COVID-19 exposure, having recently donated blood, or having just returned from a trip to India.
Overall, the blood donation drive organized by “Hope for Humanity and Nature” was a huge success. The community came together to support a worthy cause, and many people left feeling proud and fulfilled knowing that they had contributed to saving lives. We can see smiles in everyone’s lips as they left the camp 🙂
As of the of regular donors put it – “It just feels good to donate blood!”. I think this is mood cherished by most of us if not all!
The organizer informed that they plan to host similar events in the future, and the next one is Tree Plantation which is just 2 weeks away. We can’t seem to wait for it!
